Groundworks, Drainage and Brickwork
Groundworks, Drainage and Brickwork Services
At A&A Building Services (Midlands) Ltd, correct drainage installation is a critical part of every extension, kitchen renovation, orangery, and new build project.
That’s why we manage the entire drainage process carefully and in accordance with Building Regulations.
A roof isn’t just the finishing feature of a build — it’s one of the most critical structural elements of the entire property. That’s why our experienced team of skilled carpenters manage the full construction process in-house, ensuring complete quality control from start to finish.
Our Drainage Process
1. Planning & Design
Before any excavation begins, we:
- Identify existing drainage runs
- Locate inspection chambers
- Confirm connection points
- Review Building Regulation requirements
- Plan correct pipe gradients and flow direction
Every system must allow waste and surface water to flow efficiently without risk of blockages or backflow.
2. Excavation
We excavate trenches to the correct depth and width as specified.
Key considerations include:
- Correct fall (gradient) for effective flow
- Safe trench support
- Avoiding existing services (gas, electric, water)
- Maintaining structural stability around foundations
All excavation work is carried out with precision and care.
3. Pipe Installation
We install:
- Foul water drainage
- Surface water drainage
- Soil vent connections
- Underground pipework (typically 110mm uPVC systems)
Each pipe is laid:
- On a prepared granular bed
- At the correct fall
- With watertight joints
- Fully aligned to prevent future movement
Proper gradient is essential — too steep and water outruns solids; too shallow and waste may not flow correctly.
4. Inspection Chambers & Manholes
Where required, we construct:
- New inspection chambers
- Manholes
- Rodding access points
These allow future access for maintenance and ensure the system complies with regulations.
5. Testing & Inspection
Before backfilling, drainage is inspected by Building Control.
In many cases, we carry out water or air testing to ensure:
- No leaks
- Correct fall
- Proper jointing
- Full compliance with regulations
Nothing is covered until it has been signed off.
6. Backfilling & Protection
Once approved, the drainage is:
- Surrounded with suitable backfill material
- Protected from movement
- Compacted correctly
- Recorded for future reference
We ensure the finished ground level integrates seamlessly with patios, driveways, or landscaping.
Why Proper Drainage Matters
Good drainage protects:
- Your foundations
- Your internal floors
- Your extension
- Your long-term investment
- It prevents damp issues, flooding, odours, and structural movement.
At A&A Building Services, we take as much pride in the underground stages of your build as we do in the finished kitchen or orangery above it.
Because the strength of a project isn’t just what you see — it’s what lies beneath.
